Vijay starrer 'Kuruvi', has opened in a big way. Released last week-end, the movie featured Trisha, Suman, Ashish Vidyarthy among others in the cast.

Produced by Udhyanidhi Stalin, the movie was directed by Dharani and had musical score by Vidyasagar.

The movie opened in over 300 screens across the State witnessed a bumper opening. Vijay fans thronged theatres in large numbers and it was gala-time at all the screens with huge cutouts and wall posters erected at various places.

Though the movie had managed mixed reviews from the media, Vijay fans are hopeful that the movie on mass-centric theme would certainly click and go on to become a blockbuster.

A huge model of the first audio CD was given by our CM to Jackie Chan who gleefully launched the audio of 'Dasavatharam' yesterday. The model was wrapped in plastic and when it was given to the Hollywood star the plastic was ripped off and carelessly tossed aside.

With the entire crowd witnessing, Jackie casually picked up the crumpled plastic waste that was tossed carelessly on the floor and promptly dumped it in a bin. Only then did a couple of security staff come forward to the aid of Mr. Chan. Though this act is not something life-saving, what Jackie Chan did without any pride before so many people has come as an eye opener to many who were present for the music launch function.

Amir Khan Injured

We all know what a perfectionist Aamir Khan is and when he does anything he does it with style. This Bollywood icon has been shooting for the 'Ghajini' remake in Hindi for a long time now.
Aamir was wounded recently while performing a tough stunt scene and injured himself. The actor suffered an injury to his hamstring and was taken to the hospital immediately for first aid by the concerned crew.
The incident happened in the Sulthan Bazar Area in Hyderabad were a set was erected for shooting the stunt scene for the 'Ghajini' remake. The medicos have identified a ruptured hamstring and have sedated the star. Aamir is feeling much better now.
The shooting has momentarily come to a standstill and will resume after the hero of the film is good to go. The 'Ghajini' remake in Hindi has Aamir, Asin and Jiah Khan playing the lead roles.
There are reports also doing the rounds that Aamir will be flown back to Mumbai today.

Nayantara, who was supposed to be the star attraction at the IPL match yesterday, fainted while shooting in Hyderabad for Rajnikanth starrer ‘Kuselan’. She was hospitalized and was not able to perform at the event. She is one of the brand ambassadors of the Chennai team along with Vijay.
The actress who had a fever collapsed due to exhaustion and was taken to Kamineni hospital in Hyderabad. The doctors reported that the actress suffers from heat wave conditions that hit Andhra recently and has low Blood Pressure.
“A complete rest for two to three days is the best medicine for her problems now,” said the consultant.
Nayantara, who was shooting for ‘Kuselan’ at Ramoji Film city had to pack off early on Monday evening, as she was showing signs of a viral attack and feeling weak. But even after that, the thorough professional actress attended the Tuesday schedule with Rajini which went for round the clock and it is said that this added stress has resulted in the actress getting drained out.
At present Nayantara who is reigning in the numero uno position in the South, is doing three big films simultaneously, 'Kuselan' with Rajini, 'Aegan' with Ajith and 'Sathyam' opposite Vishal. And she has been signed for four more big films including 'Singam' with Vijay.

The IPL has toned down some of its earlier restrictions, especially benefiting the print media, though it has not relaxed its ban on websites covering matches from the ground, nor its ban on news agencies supplying websites with images. It was also disclosed that the date for submitting accreditation forms would be extended beyond the original April 8 deadline. "We have successfully concluded with them [media representatives] the way forward and there are no issues on the table," Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, said after the meeting in Mumbai. "New media guidelines are being issued this evening, and will be published [on the IPL website]." "It was two-way traffic at our discussions and it was a happy ending," Pradeep Vijayakar, vice-president of the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI), said. Barry Parker, South-East Asia bureau chief of Agence France Presse (AFP), told Cricinfo that he and the international media coalition that also includes AP and Getty Images are waiting for the written version of the new guidelines before they decide on their next step. Parker had earlier said the terms and conditions as existed "don't allow us to cover the event." The day's bad news was reserved for websites, whose representatives will be granted accreditation for the tournament but not match tickets, enabling them to report on pre- and post-match activity but barring them from the press box during play. This, IPL officials said, is because the league wishes to protect the portal rights it has sold to an American firm. The other contentious clause that remains is preventing news agencies from selling their pictures to websites, who will have to source images from the IPL database. Modi said the IPL's planned photo database would integrate resources that can take about 10,000 photographs on a single day at various venues.
"That makes things difficult," Parker commented. "There's more than one issue as far as the AFP is concerned." However, there was resolution on other major contentious issues, largely surrounding use of images. Contrary to the earlier guidelines, the IPL will not have the rights, free and without restrictions, to all photographs taken at the matches; and news organisations will not have to upload on the IPL site, within 24 hours, all images taken at the ground. The IPL has also allowed newspapers with their own web publication to upload six different pictures on their online photo galleries in addition to the pictures published in print.

After introducing biometric visas last December, Britain has decided to re-introduce long-term visas of up to 10 years for Indians intending to visit that country.''It is entirely in our interest to give you 10-year visas,'' the UK High Commissioner Charles Richard Vernon Stagg told industrialists at a luncheon meeting organised by the PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in Delhi on Thursday.The UK High Commission introduced bio-metric visas, which carry the information and photograph of the person in the digital form, in December last year in view of security concerns.''We are now re-introducing 5-10 years visa,'' Stagg said.The High Commission had stopped issuing long-term visas briefly in view of security concerns.The main problem at the moment, he said, is that the turnaround time has increased from 24 hours to four days, primarily because ''we cannot transmit data across the internet according to the Indian rules''.It takes four days to receive the data and get it processed from London, the High Commissioner said, adding that he had taken up the matter with Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon.''I speak about it to every government official that I meet,'' the High Commissioner added.

Virender Sehwag admitted that being dropped from the Test side "motivated" him to concentrate better, enabling him to produce what he termed as his "best innings". Sehwag spent the whole of the last year out of the Test side but returned with two outstanding hundreds in consecutive Tests.
"When I was dropped from the Test squad I was hurt because I have a good record in Test cricket," he said after his 278-ball triple hundred on the third day of the first Test. "So I was looking to prove to myself that I am a good Test player and deserve a place in the team. But that feeling of hurt was also good for me because I was able to motivate myself and concentrate better."
Exactly four years earlier Sehwag started his other epic (309 against Pakistan in Multan) but rated this innings ahead of that one. "I will say this is my best Test innings because I made 300 and scored at more than run a ball," he said. "In Multan the wicket was better than this and the conditions were not hot and humid when we played there. I don't think I showed so much patience and concentration in Pakistan. I wanted to prove to myself that I belong here and there is no better way than playing a big knock and scoring a triple century."

The deadline set by Chinese authorities for all Tibetan protesters to surrender ends at midnight on Monday. In the Sichuan region hundreds of People's Liberation Army vehicles moved in overnight, after a crowd of Tibetans threw petrol bombs and set a police station and a market on fire.In Gansu province, a crowd carried posters of the Dalai Lama, and shouted slogans as they marched on government buildings. So far China has claimed 13 people were killed while Tibetan leaders said at least 80 people have died in the violence. 26 people were killed on Saturday in Lhasa.No foreigner allowedEarlier, China had asked tourists to leave Tibet and had prohibited the entry of foreigners into the area following the worst ever violence in two decades in Lhasa. The violence erupted after protests began last Monday to mark the anniversary of the Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule. The regional government of Tibet has suspended the handling of application of foreigners who want to travel to Tibet for ''safety concerns''.According to the government media and police claim, over 580 people including three Japanese tourists had to be rescued from the violence.Violence breaks outThe week long protests in Lhasa erupted in violence on Friday with China claiming 10 people killed, while Tibetan leaders said at least 80 people have died in the violence. It included 26 people killed on Saturday next to the Dratchi prison in Lhasa.However, China has promised leniency to those who surrender. Meanwhile, the Tibet administration has denied that lethal weapons were used on the Tibetan protesters.Governor of Tibet Champa Phuntsok has defended the authorities' handling of the anti-government protests.Phuntsok also had some harsh words for spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and his protesters.Attacking the protesters and the Dalai Lama, ''the Dalai Lama group and some other people in the western countries look at the beating, burning and smashing activities by the Lhasa rioters as 'peaceful demonstrations'.Clarifying the stand taken by the authority, the governor said, ''They described our handling of the violence as one that harms people's life, security and social order as a crackdown on peaceful protests. It's groundless. No democratic country in the world will tolerate this kind of crime.''Violence spread beyond Lhasa on Sunday with clashes between Tibetan protesters and police in Aba and Sichuan province and seven more deaths being reported.Meanwhile the Dalai Lama, on Sunday, called for an international inquiry into China's crackdown, accusing it of a rule of terror and cultural genocide.The unrest, which coincided with the 49th anniversary of the uprising in Tibet against Chinese rule, began just a fortnight before China's Olympic celebrations kick off with the start of the torch relay, scheduled to pass through Tibet.However the Dalai Lama has emphasised that he still supported Beijing's staging of the Olympic games this summer, saying it was an opportunity for the Chinese to show their support for the principle of freedom.

The Indian rupee on Friday ended almost flat at 40.4350/4450 against the greenback on alternate bouts of buying and selling in the foreign exchange market.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic unit opened lower at 40.50/52 a dollar from previous close of 40.43/44. It later fell to a low of 40.58.Stock market surge .Forex dealers said the rupee sentiments were bolstered later in the day after a surge in the stock market. They added that dollar buying by oil refiners to meet their import requirements aided the local unit. Weak Asian stock markets and recovery in dollar against the Yen also partly weighed on rupee sentiments. Meanwhile, the benchmark Sensex posted a gain of 403 points after yesterday's fall of 770 points. Dealers said heavy dollar sales at the higher levels also pushed the rupee upwards and it touched a high of 40.38 a dollar before concluding the day at Rs 40.4350/4450 a dollar. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank fixed the reference rate for US dollar at Rs 40.45 and for the single European unit at Rs 63.20 per euro. The rupee premiums on forward dollar improved further on continued paying pressure from banks and corporates. The benchmark six-month forward dollar premiums payable in August ended at 25 - 27 paise, up from 23 - 25 paise on Thursday and Far-forward maturing in February also finished higher at 40 - 42 paise from 39 - 41 paise previously. In cross-currency trades, the rupee, however, recovered against the British sterling, the euro and the yen. The rupee recovered against the pound sterling to finish the day at Rs 81.84/86 per pound from previous close of Rs 82.37/39 per pound and also recouped against the Single European currency to Rs 62.90/92 per euro from overnight close of Rs 63.00/02 per euro.
It firmed up against the Japanese Yen to Rs 40.22/24 per 100 yen from last close of Rs 40.32/34 per 100 yen.

This despite the numerous signs of assault on her body.One of the accused, a drug dealer named Placido Carvalho alias Shannaboy was arrested on Wednesday night, after Samson's confession. Carvalho will appear in court on Thursday, where police will apply to detain him for questioning for 14 days.Shannaboy is accused of giving Scarlett cocktail of drugs.According to sources, the police is also investigating the way some senior officers tried to scuttle the probe and have suspended one policemen who was a part of the original investigation.A viscera test will be done on Thursday at the Kalina Lab in Mumbai to get some more clues on the case.Keeling's mother Fiona McKeon has been demanding a CBI inquiry alleging that the Goa Police deliberately botched up the investigations. She says, even the latest development is another attempt at a cover-up.However, consistent pressure from Scarlett's mother Fiona and the media forced the Goa government to reinvestigate the case and carry out a second autopsy on her body. The Pakistan Cricket Board will look to reschedule Australia's Test tour in November or next March after the original trip was postponed on Tuesday. Australia's players are relieved the decision was made to cancel the visit over security and saftey concerns, but they are still due in the country for the Champions Trophy tournament in October, an event David Morgan, the ICC president-elect, wants to go ahead as planned. Shafqat Naghmi, the PCB's chief operating officer, told the Sydney Morning Herald Cricket Australia had asked the hosts to propose a new date. "We have looked at the international schedule and all of the other factors, and we think either November this year or March next year would be a good time for the tour to go ahead," Naghmi said. "If it was to proceed in November, it would most likely be a split tour, with the Australians then coming back in March. "But if it were to take place in March, it would be a full tour. From reading James Sutherland's statements, I think he favours March." Australia are also due in India in October and will host a Test series against New Zealand and start a contest with South Africa before the end of 2008.Both the PCB and the Australian government do not believe the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is due to start on April 18, had any influence on the team staying home. "There have been suggestions that somehow the decision by Cricket Australia and the Pakistan Cricket Board is related to proposed Twenty20 games in India," Stephen Smith, Australia's foreign minister, said in the Australian. "I absolutely reject that suggestion. From the first time I had a conversation with Cricket Australia about this matter, I was absolutely convinced that CA had the security, safety and welfare of their players and any members of a touring party uppermost in their minds." The window in the calendar theoretically frees Australia's players to take part in the lucrative IPL, but there have been suggestions Cricket Australia will stage a short limited-overs series before leaving for the West Indies on May 10. However, Tim Nielsen, the national coach, has not finalised Australia's schedule and believes Twenty20 games would be good preparation. "As long as it fits in and Cricket Australia is comfortable with it, I don't have any problem," Nielsen told the Age. "It is nice that they can play some competitive cricket. I always encourage guys to be playing county cricket when it fits in because it is nice to be playing competitive, organised cricket. It is probably the best preparation they can get to put their bodies through those sorts of workloads."
Michael Clarke and Stuart Clark joined Matthew Hayden and Brett Lee in welcoming the decision to pull out of the tour. "I don't think 'disappointed' is the right word - I'm rapt Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers' Association made the decision and it didn't have to come down to individual players," Clarke told AAP. "I'm very relieved and happy they've done that for the playing group." Clark said the squad was worried about the situation in Pakistan. "I don't think anyone likes it when a cricket tour gets called off because that's our job, but there were obviously concerns from everyone involved," he said. Zaheer Khan, India's left-arm fast bowler, will take time to regain full fitness according to Venkatesh Prasad, the bowling coach. "I have been talking to him (Zaheer)," Prasad said. "As far as I am concerned, when you get a break, you have to work that much harder to get back into rhythm. He is working hard on fitness and bowling. It will take time." Prasad also said that Anil , the Test captain, and Gary Kirsten, the newly appointed coach, will take a decision on whether Zaheer needs to be a part of the team for the first two Tests against South Africa starting March 26. Zaheer dropped out of the team after the first Test against Australia last year with an ankle injury, and has since visited the Centre for Sports Medicine in Johannesburg for rehabilitation.
"When you are coming back after injury, you need to be slightly cautious as to how you are going to push," Prasad said. "Zaheer is working hard on his fitness and slowly raising the load factor and am sure he will be fit for the Test matches." Prasad also confirmed that he had formally signed on as coach with IPL's Bangalore Royal Challengers and said that he had not heard from the BCCI in this regard. "I have no communication with board about this (IPL). I personally feel it should be OK." The Indian Board had earlier told Cricinfo that they were yet to take a decision on allowing the Indian coaching staff to tie up with IPL teams, fearing a clash of interests. Prasad was speaking to reporters along with Bangalore's IPL captain Rahul Dravid and their Chief Cricket Officer Martin Crowe hours before the Royal Challengers officially launched their team.

The U.S. space agency's car-sized MESSENGER spacecraft on January 14 flew past Mercury, whose diameter is just a third the size of Earth's, and its seven scientific instruments gathered new information about the little understood planet.Data collected by MESSENGER showed that a massive impact crater on its surface is larger than previously thought. The probe is due to fly by again this October and in September 2009 before beginning a yearlong orbit of the planet in 2011.
While Mercury looks superficially like Earth's moon with a cratered, rocky surface, scientists said the new findings show they are quite different

Mercury is a mystery in many ways and its proximity to the sun has made it difficult to observe from Earth.
Mercury has been visited by a spacecraft only twice before, in 1974 and 1975 when NASA's Mariner 10 flew past it three times and mapped about 45 percent of its surface. The latest fly-by covered another 30 percent of the surface.
"The Spider" was the most striking feature described by the scientists. It is made up of more than 100 narrow, flat-floored troughs radiating from a central point, much as petals from a daisy or the legs of a spider.

Hyperkinetix is a Tamil hip hopband from Malaysia consisting of six individuals, Kugan aka Funktionz, Hashish, MC Cable, Yoga, Krisz & VJ. They released their first album titled “Rebornation” which was featured on the Malaysian Fusion X II Compilation CD released in the end year 2003. The song received good rotation on local radio stations. This groups dates back to 2000 where founders of Rapocalypse Records, an independent hip hop label in Malaysia, Kugan & Bala met up with four friends, VJ, Yoga, Loga & Krisz who were at that time thriving for a chance at the local music industry.
Seeing the potential these young lads had, all six of them decided to form a Tamil hip hop group which was subsequently named “Hyperkinetix”. As Kugan aka Funktionz was busy producing the album “Melodramatics” that time, it was an excellent opportunity to introduce the group to the independent English hip hop market in Malaysia which at that was on the lookout for something fresh.
Hyperkinetix recorded “Vetri” which was produced by group member Kugan@Funktionz and the song was released on the “Melodramatics” album which hit stores in June 2003. The song was an instant hit and received heavy rotation on THR Raaga, Malaysia’s No.1 Tamil radio station. With the success of this song, the group decided to take it one step further by recording a full length album. The album recording process begun in August, 2003 and was completed July, 2004. Their debut album “Vegam Vivegam” was released on the first week of August 2004 and sold more than 11,000 units in the first 5 months of its release/The first single from the album “Pirrepom Irrepom” which featured Emceedavid made a debut at No.1 on the Malaysian Tamil music charts and was at the top of the charts for a record breaking 17 consecutive weeks making it the longest running No.1 single in the tamil music charts history establishing Hyperkinetix as one of the hottest new acts to emerge in the Malaysian music scene. Vegam Vivegam is also the first tamil hip hop album in the country to breakthrough the international market with the album being distributed in UK. The group has been featured in numerous publications and also performed at Time Highway Radio’s concert in Malacca in front of a crowd of 40,000 fans."Por Vellum Varthaigal" which contain 10 brand new songs is a follow up EP to their debut album "Vegam Vivegam" and is set to take the Malaysian tamil music scene by storm.
